<br />
I really and truly believe that D. and I created the best bathroom of all time. But its the best bathroom for US, so your definition could differ. <br />
<br />
I'm not going to chat too much about what we did. I'll let the pictures (mostly) speak for themselves.<br />
<br />
We installed heated flooring:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBNmiMm6ElSnn4Ev0Vf6lJL9ugqgRc7NIgEhyeB_gPJTvvGtqmyo8Pgy1JF1hcIE1_wAwg-iWFWuoiC3gnLwhAVHn5uC22ek0JzpYeAXqLksZnJXuk5r6xx7_PCVLt4i0m9bSi241eysL5/s1600/IMG_0187.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBNmiMm6ElSnn4Ev0Vf6lJL9ugqgRc7NIgEhyeB_gPJTvvGtqmyo8Pgy1JF1hcIE1_wAwg-iWFWuoiC3gnLwhAVHn5uC22ek0JzpYeAXqLksZnJXuk5r6xx7_PCVLt4i0m9bSi241eysL5/s1600/IMG_0187.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We waterproofed the hell out of the shower walls - which is why they're pink - and then installed mosaic tile on the floors, both in the shower and on the rest of the floor.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg06c_6ECnve7WXjFnzMJSnM-ew-9eRr-NaZoUR7LVG_tORD_8awXHno_BLp0DH3kzuuuAbYKvxvPVBgkoWAgAYXF8xQHvhF6U645fwlE2-wOa7W0LPsYKwg1xJg5kPFbtjJ-2DDLaVo_4v/s1600/IMG_0188.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg06c_6ECnve7WXjFnzMJSnM-ew-9eRr-NaZoUR7LVG_tORD_8awXHno_BLp0DH3kzuuuAbYKvxvPVBgkoWAgAYXF8xQHvhF6U645fwlE2-wOa7W0LPsYKwg1xJg5kPFbtjJ-2DDLaVo_4v/s1600/IMG_0188.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
We added a marble mosaic tile border to the shower:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBSJi1vXpu9xP8LiOR3lOBVfEPQ5PYskgORdy1Isf_Ek2hVEUvro9LFw6TzdmNcolGgDifCe7wji0lbjcFpw-MOodJhojmDhvTca1yY_FT3HUIZjKMF2wwa4NqqVX8OdlOixwD5fzY6QHg/s1600/IMG_0348.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBSJi1vXpu9xP8LiOR3lOBVfEPQ5PYskgORdy1Isf_Ek2hVEUvro9LFw6TzdmNcolGgDifCe7wji0lbjcFpw-MOodJhojmDhvTca1yY_FT3HUIZjKMF2wwa4NqqVX8OdlOixwD5fzY6QHg/s1600/IMG_0348.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
We chose a classic subway tile pattern for the rest of the shower. It goes floor to ceiling.<br />
<br />
Marble went on all of the thresholds in the shower:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig5PGbD1OzFPN5ObUd3YE4k37mXiEDyKCJ_6IhUrDShyoMcLg2fntYgIZB9leugEK4nsE6uc9eHmm2OkSekOsX5uCp-66zpcM4kQJr1vybUGPsbHe4zZm1QWLwnpP1xCYXqYd0vrtUaPg9/s1600/IMG_0319.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEig5PGbD1OzFPN5ObUd3YE4k37mXiEDyKCJ_6IhUrDShyoMcLg2fntYgIZB9leugEK4nsE6uc9eHmm2OkSekOsX5uCp-66zpcM4kQJr1vybUGPsbHe4zZm1QWLwnpP1xCYXqYd0vrtUaPg9/s1600/IMG_0319.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And then we had a completed bathroom...............hahahaha. Just kidding. It took a lot longer, but I'm going to show the finished pictures anyway. Starting with the shower.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_u6wSUEGIfjTvbC1ImToela0_c3HNMEGVLrsm_WiP1bLJS4JmQ55KOcHFl1oDzTiBVrGEgNKcARV6oZYHvmXgJpK2px3_mQ6ytX4ApDRLmrz4TwA5sPGk1vtDh-siz9mlnvc_lDlgyQyO/s1600/IMG_0289.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_u6wSUEGIfjTvbC1ImToela0_c3HNMEGVLrsm_WiP1bLJS4JmQ55KOcHFl1oDzTiBVrGEgNKcARV6oZYHvmXgJpK2px3_mQ6ytX4ApDRLmrz4TwA5sPGk1vtDh-siz9mlnvc_lDlgyQyO/s1600/IMG_0289.JPG" height="640" width="478" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFBXngGoROnF95lxXby4aS8s_tnFlIXIsrh1e6zu3KZ5TRSOAg0qLhLNSr1Tqg3ImaVre9v8nx6glQ_wo_i8s2T1f7aPxKsWV2vGHPjwSNihRayUa16Mk9zfRFW4TClUBGczkyFOeUNSg7/s1600/IMG_0291.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFBXngGoROnF95lxXby4aS8s_tnFlIXIsrh1e6zu3KZ5TRSOAg0qLhLNSr1Tqg3ImaVre9v8nx6glQ_wo_i8s2T1f7aPxKsWV2vGHPjwSNihRayUa16Mk9zfRFW4TClUBGczkyFOeUNSg7/s1600/IMG_0291.JPG" height="640" width="478" /></a></div>
<br />
This is probably the MOST amazing shower in the history of indoor plumbing. It has a rainhead shower fixture and a wand.<br />
<br />
My one regret? Why didn't I clean the outside of that EFFING window? Seriously? I'm an idiot...<br />
<br />
The rest of the bathroom is nearly as fabulous. We wanted lots of storage and we got it. Big thanks to our cabinet makers who didn't necessarily agree with my choices, but always listened and then did what I wanted. They are the best!<br />
<br />
Installation:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhevn7xMQWJYrzna4tz1lgDhHPD_SfSUgKd5MwhyuRCyH61rf56SvEAEGg7o15nL6VlgKp63UnG5hC7lJf9QxBm0HC30c2j29f6KSPNlLFN68M8irRqaJ40NUMcdGZk8K3o8XFUxOoHDoBE/s1600/IMG_0176.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhevn7xMQWJYrzna4tz1lgDhHPD_SfSUgKd5MwhyuRCyH61rf56SvEAEGg7o15nL6VlgKp63UnG5hC7lJf9QxBm0HC30c2j29f6KSPNlLFN68M8irRqaJ40NUMcdGZk8K3o8XFUxOoHDoBE/s1600/IMG_0176.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Installation of the linen closet:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The linen closet is in place. Hallelujah!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Finally, everything else in place. Including the marble counters:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7PKxrMGByY20M0m6xfrcxNSDydgG3loc8GTq_rzMm8NTC4hUBz-UiRUx2l2sc7jTVnl6SjtQ96RpXMKNdugaZiMMAB0fWQD5sUqAnlefKVsw08Mnm5wbKXQ-TfYyc1-pPrIc9bFRPw5YJ/s1600/IMG_0317.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7PKxrMGByY20M0m6xfrcxNSDydgG3loc8GTq_rzMm8NTC4hUBz-UiRUx2l2sc7jTVnl6SjtQ96RpXMKNdugaZiMMAB0fWQD5sUqAnlefKVsw08Mnm5wbKXQ-TfYyc1-pPrIc9bFRPw5YJ/s1600/IMG_0317.JPG" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
A note on the marble counters......God I wish I was a photographer. They look beige in every picture I take but in reality they are the perfect grey/white/greige. Seriously, they are perfectly veined but because I am a terrible photographer they look like vinyl. *sigh*<br />
<br />
This is the view toward the bedroom:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEger2AKUEkMT8MVLmUD2Ovct2U2iQzuIBH5MZzRXj_HFWw0GouoG2zVGjUOqRqHpuM1QEDVtjEFfZPQYGLn3dbpaueaaJJG2qADPVAjiWIMKc76N-4Z0SGWebHtHV9d9Gg11NqeHdNa7QU3/s1600/IMG_0296.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEger2AKUEkMT8MVLmUD2Ovct2U2iQzuIBH5MZzRXj_HFWw0GouoG2zVGjUOqRqHpuM1QEDVtjEFfZPQYGLn3dbpaueaaJJG2qADPVAjiWIMKc76N-4Z0SGWebHtHV9d9Gg11NqeHdNa7QU3/s1600/IMG_0296.JPG" height="640" width="478" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is the view from the bedroom. It also inspired the secondary color palette:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_3kQB0or8mfKwGaBM9x4qkBxFIAtbIw0yyNnpAZ9FduQYR3jp5oPKQTXhy-rP47E3pXTLOlQaOT5n1VaZIEcRhuI5eRXmgMu__5ggFxMWkyPX9c_7IYidwBaP-59ZybEL5q4ziZ7vN0d9/s1600/IMG_0295.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_3kQB0or8mfKwGaBM9x4qkBxFIAtbIw0yyNnpAZ9FduQYR3jp5oPKQTXhy-rP47E3pXTLOlQaOT5n1VaZIEcRhuI5eRXmgMu__5ggFxMWkyPX9c_7IYidwBaP-59ZybEL5q4ziZ7vN0d9/s1600/IMG_0295.JPG" height="640" width="478" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The next post will detail the accents. And they are-a plenty.......<br />
<br />
I hope you like our bathroom as much as we do!<br />
<br />

Then I realized that <b>everyone</b>, <b>everywhere </b>could see my life and my house. And <b>then </b>I realized that these phantom people could judge and comment and <i>oh my God everyone's judging me and they hate what I'm doing and I am the worst. </i><br />
<br />
But.....<br />
<br />
Then I remembered that the only people that have ever even heard of my blog are people I love, so I <i>should </i>show them the crazy things I've done. I'm really proud of our bathroom and I really want to share it, so.....here we go!<br />
<br />
D. and I redid our bathroom. We did an amazing job. I did the demo (which took an afternoon) but he put it back together in the most glorious way.<br />
<br />
We hired out the drywall: that's a job we hate and the hanging/taping/mudding/sanding AND finishing cost us $350USD and that includes the drywall guy coming back twice to fix something that was OUR mistake. He also did some work in our living room for free. Needless to say...we love him!<br />
<br />
We also had the cabinets custom made. Ohhhhh, the cabinets. They were expensive -to us- but soooo worth it. THEY. ARE. BEAUTIFUL. Exactly what we wanted and so perfectly made....<br />
<br />
Here's the thing....the bathroom was perfectly functional before we started but we had so many complaints.<br />
<br />
It had a huge bathtub and a tiny shower. D. and I never take baths, but showers are an everyday (sometimes twice-a-day) event. Strike One.<br />
<br />
The shower was itty bitty and so ugly. Strike Two.<br />
<br />
We couldn't open most of the drawers of the vanity and it had seen better days. Strike Three.<br />
<br />
The only time I take a bath is when I'm sick and this is where our tub goes sideways. Not literally. One edge of the tub was on an exterior wall and that wall was not insulated so I'd fill the tub but it couldn't hold heat. It was so deep and it was on an exterior wall so the water would never get above lukewarm. Not ideal for someone that takes baths only when they want the water screaming hot.<br />
This was STRIKE NINETEEN.<br />
<br />
<i>Whoops, I skipped ahead a bit. But I hated this bathroom, so it deserves the extra strikes..</i><br />
<br />
We couldn't open most of the drawers of the vanity and the rest of the decor was dated.<br />
STRIKE SEVENTY MILLION.<br />
<br />
It was time for an upgrade:<br />
<br />

Everything came out. EVERYTHING!!!!! I personally ripped this bathroom down to the studs. I don't have any pictures of the demo because it went really fast. Actually, I don't have pictures because a dead mouse fell on my head so I was mad at the world and not interested in taking pictures. This is the best I can do.....<br />

This is post demo, post insulation installation, and mid-drywall.<br />
<br />
We donated all of the fixtures to Habitat for Humanity. I tried to give the bathtub to our UPS guy but he said it was bigger than his entire bathroom at home...I told you it was giant. The vanity found another life in our garage as the greatest shop storage of all time.<br />
<br />
I'm going to leave it here. The final product will be in the next post. I'm not going to draw this out.<br />
<br />
Here's a preview...<br />

<br />
To refresh your memory, here's the finished product:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAZeezfO_RlWGVAFG2B7btC4Olg0e-W4tsJh9_lU7F_-_Jg7ka4LrTA330cjzoQPy2he8BU0eWTNH0Kgrnh3dX3KkxA5VCAvYAdsKLEmKSRylaKFXDEdNONkDeg5s3YmkkmTyoDYDzol0U/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAZeezfO_RlWGVAFG2B7btC4Olg0e-W4tsJh9_lU7F_-_Jg7ka4LrTA330cjzoQPy2he8BU0eWTNH0Kgrnh3dX3KkxA5VCAvYAdsKLEmKSRylaKFXDEdNONkDeg5s3YmkkmTyoDYDzol0U/s640/004.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
And a closer look:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7kFbp_FMVugp3Eh2xHMEycES6Miu6PboYZH1sB7ewiZklkjOkI1AN8tzeIVzAz7CV2q7ONC3L70zb7ds1wZhGO0QMpmZtS3aMvuFSLLjEJSK68QtQxi4sjyR5EFDaGsTUv1mhTJ0efwJQ/s1600/017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7kFbp_FMVugp3Eh2xHMEycES6Miu6PboYZH1sB7ewiZklkjOkI1AN8tzeIVzAz7CV2q7ONC3L70zb7ds1wZhGO0QMpmZtS3aMvuFSLLjEJSK68QtQxi4sjyR5EFDaGsTUv1mhTJ0efwJQ/s640/017.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
First up, gather everything you need. Which turns out to be three things....<br />
<br />
1. Wire fencing<br />
2. Wire cutters<br />
3. Round piece of wood.<br />
<br />
Decide the circumfrence and height of the table that works best for your spot. Keep in mind that if the table is too small around it could be a little wobbly. We're going for sturdy!<br />
<br />
Once you've decided how big the table will be, extend your mesurements by one section. You'll use the extra section to keep the table closed and support your top. Cut the fencing so there are pieces of wire sticking out that you can bend. Now, bend the fencing into your table base and then bend the extra wire around to secure the table, like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3Ls_OnuV9GeAg8jetO4It8H0_eibuWlTe2uZSFMRCdwzyIJTKKd9pR3vdayGYq1L5e1pwu0GtnxW9bPkTJOul4l8hM9Rry2Uznla_FZXuQL5r3pgY1kaS4KpWo-CMybZKCqq_krmsKYJL/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3Ls_OnuV9GeAg8jetO4It8H0_eibuWlTe2uZSFMRCdwzyIJTKKd9pR3vdayGYq1L5e1pwu0GtnxW9bPkTJOul4l8hM9Rry2Uznla_FZXuQL5r3pgY1kaS4KpWo-CMybZKCqq_krmsKYJL/s640/008.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
See how the wire is bent around to keep the entire frame closed? <br />
<br />
Next, bend the excess wire at the top of the table inward in order to support the top.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbMqxk1xwRlJdZUCM4YqYq7oSKZOM3EXDEZzoJJ82_52Y4dwNTVXWkhCXIDbAEm3Xqo4JLn3AjX5aW4Nx3YcNz8K_Dy1AlROvx2ir1DXw4yxfGIT5Cg7jQlDaFPUQaW1KayfaFjq0VLN4d/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbMqxk1xwRlJdZUCM4YqYq7oSKZOM3EXDEZzoJJ82_52Y4dwNTVXWkhCXIDbAEm3Xqo4JLn3AjX5aW4Nx3YcNz8K_Dy1AlROvx2ir1DXw4yxfGIT5Cg7jQlDaFPUQaW1KayfaFjq0VLN4d/s640/007.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
It just so happens that my husband had hoarded a wine barrel top. It was the perfect size so I just slapped it on there. But Home Depot and Lowes both sell round pieces of wood that can be primed or stained. Just make sure that they're the right size for you table.<br />
<br />
I loved the look of the table without the driftwood, but it's really cool jammed with the worn wood that's just laying around our property.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKTHxsZu2iG5_SY1d72A7TTfS0udPInyR6mcJIut5kogg4aP6dKhXBC_aUuitZBkwFYQogc-n6Tu-h_qFYihzWNWapi7e_q4H8L74Fyg5motR6noAgL4uayT62uaxOeA_ylxW1tvn82jqu/s1600/018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKTHxsZu2iG5_SY1d72A7TTfS0udPInyR6mcJIut5kogg4aP6dKhXBC_aUuitZBkwFYQogc-n6Tu-h_qFYihzWNWapi7e_q4H8L74Fyg5motR6noAgL4uayT62uaxOeA_ylxW1tvn82jqu/s640/018.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The final product.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmYy0_jnGrqfwZ1_NTNs8WtJ39z8CjCyOjgQN-_cg6gPGyEedSByZsj0-UA8Hr6vFUPd6hh5k960AeCqxuEnuZL-PqTYP0gOHSslP8CuEx3zuLoDUtRb4chc3ruG-AOh_TBtWdTKnr4OJI/s1600/019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmYy0_jnGrqfwZ1_NTNs8WtJ39z8CjCyOjgQN-_cg6gPGyEedSByZsj0-UA8Hr6vFUPd6hh5k960AeCqxuEnuZL-PqTYP0gOHSslP8CuEx3zuLoDUtRb4chc3ruG-AOh_TBtWdTKnr4OJI/s640/019.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>

<br />
I made a couple quick pillows using <a href="http://www.centsationalgirl.com/2011/03/no-sew-cloth-napkin-pillow-covers/" target="_blank">this</a> tutorial. I found a couple of sweaters at Goodwill for two dollars each and cut them out to fit the pillow inserts I had on hand. They are perfect for winter and cost about 5 bucks each. <br />
<br />
<br />
I did a little back deck makeover. I needed a side table so.....I made one! Details to follow.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Next up......we went from this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwxQ6ERpecOQG-9_kFt4GOlvV7SsSxIPT-JGJoFBr8b04kcIftzJ7m6VZPzD9BQjVSP-T6O1glo4bShJmX6ljrmwVZTLgahOgsYNu_PefwQcegv3WLfJNxTgApfA1ikIKyU0GZ-46GvLpm/s1600/090.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwxQ6ERpecOQG-9_kFt4GOlvV7SsSxIPT-JGJoFBr8b04kcIftzJ7m6VZPzD9BQjVSP-T6O1glo4bShJmX6ljrmwVZTLgahOgsYNu_PefwQcegv3WLfJNxTgApfA1ikIKyU0GZ-46GvLpm/s640/090.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Having trouble spotting the difference? Look up. We replaced the hideous ceiling fan with pot lights. I'd love to say that I worked up the courage to cut holes in the ceiling myself, but this is one projects we didn't DIY. <br />
The difference is amazing. The room has soooo much light and when I sit on the couch I don't feel like I'm about to be crushed to death by the ceiling fan. Worth. Every. Penny.<br />
<br />
That's a wrap-up of a few small things I've done around here. More to come.....<br />

I've done quite a few projects and this is one of my very favorites. It probably took me half an hour per mirror (I made two). This is a seriously simple DIY rope framed mirror. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMpMk3ELKTF1DPdIhvoagxOUOKsycUQHxBei0hxYFXwbxiPBfSuGMH6A61NuQdQ9Pn-NiJEZ6amWl8Nipv-tiRXhrL0jpeaZbEzqkMd2G7m8iIQyhDrqHmE8lU9hxVJOxPtp4mKRc-y0zC/s1600/022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMpMk3ELKTF1DPdIhvoagxOUOKsycUQHxBei0hxYFXwbxiPBfSuGMH6A61NuQdQ9Pn-NiJEZ6amWl8Nipv-tiRXhrL0jpeaZbEzqkMd2G7m8iIQyhDrqHmE8lU9hxVJOxPtp4mKRc-y0zC/s640/022.JPG" width="427" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's how I did it:</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Gather your materials. I used a cheap mirror from Ikea (9.99!), some rope from Home Depot, and a glue gun. The thicker rope was around 1.00/ft and I got 40 feet but I had about 8-10 feet left over. Per mirror I would guess I used about 15 feet of rope. Plus I bought some thinner rope to hide the cut edges of the thicker stuff. More on that in a bit.<br />
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I dry-fit the rope around the outer edge of the mirror and then cut it off with some thick shears. I used the glue gun to adhere the rope to the mirror, glueing all the way around. I did that three times, making sure that the next row of rope was really tight to the previous row so that the mirror wasn't visible between the rows.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once I had the three rows in place, I need to cover up the cut edges of the rope. I used some thinner rope and tucked and then glued it in place. It hides the cut edges really well and adds a nice detail to the mirror.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWfh_50rrg_u3rdhLPPOnAaH06KSCvBSDXu7zKzmCif5NEIHORjEMUX_nxp6wMTGmuksk5QpbqDmJPiM46yfWmecrlVfNraegjo4OJJlpKFbJgHqZEGEr6hEb9myd1R_v_KRUp_zLhhIkF/s1600/023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWfh_50rrg_u3rdhLPPOnAaH06KSCvBSDXu7zKzmCif5NEIHORjEMUX_nxp6wMTGmuksk5QpbqDmJPiM46yfWmecrlVfNraegjo4OJJlpKFbJgHqZEGEr6hEb9myd1R_v_KRUp_zLhhIkF/s640/023.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The final result:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkYigfOnU4zqLBfrEvvyKmJnQz6mm60SKXx0z3OLsccX5GTlLdvmg1QP_9aruTDCfmuHhi5_fSsSeVTHSrovkfdnVLb2VL2HBukQH122AHLDfIYiYD96sdU4yVrUWD8_r8zGWWHS8lU5SU/s1600/028.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkYigfOnU4zqLBfrEvvyKmJnQz6mm60SKXx0z3OLsccX5GTlLdvmg1QP_9aruTDCfmuHhi5_fSsSeVTHSrovkfdnVLb2VL2HBukQH122AHLDfIYiYD96sdU4yVrUWD8_r8zGWWHS8lU5SU/s640/028.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've wanted to do something like this for a long time and it was totally one of those "Why did I wait so long" projects. It could not be easier!</div>

<br />
Oh wait, that's not how my blog works. I post stuff for YOU to look at, not the other way around. Whoops. <br />
<br />
Let's just jump back into it then, shall we?<br />
<br />
I haven't shown the main living area of our house because I haven't been all that happy with it. And that's terrible because it's where I spend 99.9999% of my time.<br />
<br />
Here's a picture from when we first moved in.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHDR06yTvfMAFdgDJ13Ir9lIxQoffNKEfh3A33CCC9ek3vyjZNT-22KL57oTmuA6v3peAnTg0jmHJSuhrBGY2N90nIB8pnp_5577dPzA1eVpAX_cjOLdZaZOvBfd9SenhVOT4HRnZC2bNw/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHDR06yTvfMAFdgDJ13Ir9lIxQoffNKEfh3A33CCC9ek3vyjZNT-22KL57oTmuA6v3peAnTg0jmHJSuhrBGY2N90nIB8pnp_5577dPzA1eVpAX_cjOLdZaZOvBfd9SenhVOT4HRnZC2bNw/s640/009.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There's a bunch of stuff wrong with this picture. No rug. Teeny-tiny TV stand. Different length curtains. Visible cords and speakers. Demonic cat. Showing the world I wear Crocs. Etc, etc, etc.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I fixed most of the problems but there's no helping that cat. He'll be crazy for the rest of his days. And although the Crocs remain a deep source of personal shame, I'm just going to shoulder that burden. Haha.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's how it currently looks.</div>

The only thing left to do is find a new sofa and chair. The leather ones are soooo comfy but they are a little big for the space. I'm thinking about something like this:</div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

A bunch of things that have been happening around here since fall has befallen us. Ultimately it hasn't rained since July (!!!) and in the past few days it has more than made up for that and then there was a water main break so it was all "water, water, everywhere" Except for the tap. Booo.<br />
<br />
Now for the snippets. Lots of pics, few words. You're welcome.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXLqlNGG_6PAP_fVcUiSETBB72nyWg4561z0PvjZHX6umKzAmE6FlH7PJN61Q4jRPBTAhqyUVYL6cgtOCSKGSIzOpoumCcWjj-UG4q284fwaD6SU8YWpEJo1XE0X2MFFSlxtePVB8W_wvi/s1600/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXLqlNGG_6PAP_fVcUiSETBB72nyWg4561z0PvjZHX6umKzAmE6FlH7PJN61Q4jRPBTAhqyUVYL6cgtOCSKGSIzOpoumCcWjj-UG4q284fwaD6SU8YWpEJo1XE0X2MFFSlxtePVB8W_wvi/s640/014.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
So it hasn't rained here since July. Oh, I mentioned that already? Whoops. But no rain around here for two months catches people's attention. It also destroys dahlias. The excess weight of the rain just busts those bad boys.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

All of the hanging baskets are still holding on. It amazes me that I still have flowers growing in mid-October. The last picture gives a sneak peak at the latest curb appeal project.<br />

Unfortunately it was starting to look a little sad. It all started with something I've done a million times: washing the outdoor cushions. I usually just throw them in the washer and dryer with no problems. But this time......<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLvmRyaFK8j6mg-O_d26KkZIwv31ryj2Av7-L2vnioONlMntSHW1q68q1hDm7VeNDd7LdrlrLrrrV1sCcQqATtLRrclJor2hN6SuoVsNkeA5o-EMkCEtr1tpKM8JOKXAhfwwfXOuIuxfEz/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLvmRyaFK8j6mg-O_d26KkZIwv31ryj2Av7-L2vnioONlMntSHW1q68q1hDm7VeNDd7LdrlrLrrrV1sCcQqATtLRrclJor2hN6SuoVsNkeA5o-EMkCEtr1tpKM8JOKXAhfwwfXOuIuxfEz/s640/002.JPG" width="425" /></a></div>
<br />
You can see that the washer or the dryer ripped the cushion apart. In a bunch of places...boo.. Which actually is a blessing in disguise because it was about time for an upgrade.<br />
<br />
Once I started thinking about that, I got the balling rolling and decided to refinish the deck, paint the ceiling and get all new accessories. It's funny how that happens.<br />
<br />
I used the same cleaning technique on this deck that I did on the back deck. Find it <a href="http://offfortheseason.blogspot.com/2012/05/curb-appeal-part-two.html" target="_blank">here</a>. It worked great and I was left with a completely blank slate.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAyYZaCCXh9qibNFWewZUCOZi4Zr6fkG6suNIwGEXeUXYPNxjHP0Pe1w94vCgTpp5B6i7w6etBG5X7pMKFP56HlSDayi6K5gTl33eYU66vGJCcKdRoVAi9ULqFwvMUl2xm6Hy7Qwx_IFuF/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAyYZaCCXh9qibNFWewZUCOZi4Zr6fkG6suNIwGEXeUXYPNxjHP0Pe1w94vCgTpp5B6i7w6etBG5X7pMKFP56HlSDayi6K5gTl33eYU66vGJCcKdRoVAi9ULqFwvMUl2xm6Hy7Qwx_IFuF/s640/001.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
There was also the ceiling to contend with because my husband had treated all of the wood outside and there was some overspray. It wasn't pretty but it wasn't something that bothered me until the cushions ripped. I painted the ceiling a really, really light blue color. I decided that when it gets dark and dreary here, it would nice to have a little blue overhead.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiecw2RrLn55R18OhdwDuRnoOXR3pL8RdK5zqrU6gvVmHDmPZiN3WsKcIR5cAIOmftzmYDaFQX-vhAv9Fnk2uyUvembzHHOUolYoxmxexkfwisvCLQQdNiv2cPs7sMitztSrmYlJuJHR3Qn/s1600/016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiecw2RrLn55R18OhdwDuRnoOXR3pL8RdK5zqrU6gvVmHDmPZiN3WsKcIR5cAIOmftzmYDaFQX-vhAv9Fnk2uyUvembzHHOUolYoxmxexkfwisvCLQQdNiv2cPs7sMitztSrmYlJuJHR3Qn/s640/016.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
See that orange stripe around the edge of the ceiling. That's what was bothering me....<br />
<br />
And then....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_pxS4B7evrwRwPmIg_vxURHDCz8Sf8ah00ATZ-Y8O7psD-rOpu_yurQ_Yyu78Zz8xrVXqP8hdhAFc_FX3v11ZBaOxrTjwvqIzuAVfOt56KWVq8rVTUGU-VQkOMDmYNRfdltqO03aHDKs2/s1600/005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_pxS4B7evrwRwPmIg_vxURHDCz8Sf8ah00ATZ-Y8O7psD-rOpu_yurQ_Yyu78Zz8xrVXqP8hdhAFc_FX3v11ZBaOxrTjwvqIzuAVfOt56KWVq8rVTUGU-VQkOMDmYNRfdltqO03aHDKs2/s640/005.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
The difference is super subtle unless it's cloudy and then my little piece of blue sky is great.<br />
<br />
From there it was time accessorize.....my favorite part!<br />
<br />
At the time Pottery Barn was having an end of summer super sale. I decided I needed an outdoor rug and some new cushions. <br />
<br />
First up the rug.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUS24VFXsbzs65wjCorFwd6hWx3uDIK5xTa3j7EqNmxlDIwFe7qujtp2d3g2_AMc_zZ1j5UYf7IfmMfQ3pcSgyK5QmSYpL4DpDd5-fSjxdwcKBleiLNGDY9OdSJL6xnVsWOO3iuUfrGrvt/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUS24VFXsbzs65wjCorFwd6hWx3uDIK5xTa3j7EqNmxlDIwFe7qujtp2d3g2_AMc_zZ1j5UYf7IfmMfQ3pcSgyK5QmSYpL4DpDd5-fSjxdwcKBleiLNGDY9OdSJL6xnVsWOO3iuUfrGrvt/s640/007.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
It's the <a href="http://www.potterybarn.com/products/oliver-stripe-outdoor-rug/?pkey=coutdoor-sale" target="_blank">Oliver Stripe rug</a>. Here's a pic from Pottery Barn's website:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-9tmsGA-h7jsAv_AIJ8N_J0W40LK1WTQqwipxwwRXzl4DstDw38MUth_6COxZuhRGYynR8MZY2q90427_xS6Qp58YyUL39J4IJOdhqGandfse7I2vGgMfpkHyauIvK1HxqhE2PgNEEbQ9/s1600/rug.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="288" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-9tmsGA-h7jsAv_AIJ8N_J0W40LK1WTQqwipxwwRXzl4DstDw38MUth_6COxZuhRGYynR8MZY2q90427_xS6Qp58YyUL39J4IJOdhqGandfse7I2vGgMfpkHyauIvK1HxqhE2PgNEEbQ9/s320/rug.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Right now it's available and on sale for 149.99 plus shipping!<br />
<br />
Now that I had the rug down I decided not to stray too far from Pottery Barn and I went with some complimentary cushions. Not matching, but complimentary. Unfortunately they are no longer available on the Pottery Barn website.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJU3nGMeZMm8ysNMwIAYZD0HQ03OdEFTJVZQ8JZu6AOyenS7Fpe0DC9K-VlRqfoxQbRHWwNezXd88kQhKZfhu1BbYxQMbMPUUoWaL_SegukQy-iA8uVdlD4KmGOs8RTToupa-Y6z5Uopa4/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJU3nGMeZMm8ysNMwIAYZD0HQ03OdEFTJVZQ8JZu6AOyenS7Fpe0DC9K-VlRqfoxQbRHWwNezXd88kQhKZfhu1BbYxQMbMPUUoWaL_SegukQy-iA8uVdlD4KmGOs8RTToupa-Y6z5Uopa4/s640/004.JPG" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
For a side by side comparison:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKVcRnhthBjTYjX0a4VcT4tm-pvOOu3aeVJg_P0763smUnsGZxNCVDZ0dIs7qza4vUSRDp_AaRuGIDEj6z8tt8ADpFkNTi-XmY8JVjCjcS6XSArMyR5j4YVKlr1gER61UnG2lVfMlQ0yT8/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKVcRnhthBjTYjX0a4VcT4tm-pvOOu3aeVJg_P0763smUnsGZxNCVDZ0dIs7qza4vUSRDp_AaRuGIDEj6z8tt8ADpFkNTi-XmY8JVjCjcS6XSArMyR5j4YVKlr1gER61UnG2lVfMlQ0yT8/s400/012.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The colors play really nice with each other.<br />
<br />
I moved some furniture around which means another outdoor post in the future :)<br />
<br />
<br />
Before:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEhU6tQoynljYAqDJjBcNZ15r2GF8yueww57c5K09TyI0wvwnG1KfrpTN7kgfEWLwQtVob0BTICAX_coCGTBMm0F2C6S004zhNFBb-bMn9Wqml4UXf0un43vMgpR8A1B3_czVYhYuGs_fA/s1600/101.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEhU6tQoynljYAqDJjBcNZ15r2GF8yueww57c5K09TyI0wvwnG1KfrpTN7kgfEWLwQtVob0BTICAX_coCGTBMm0F2C6S004zhNFBb-bMn9Wqml4UXf0un43vMgpR8A1B3_czVYhYuGs_fA/s640/101.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And After:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8dGlHIIV1ckViJNGklGFNC7FP18e5iBd_b597SYQueTVeI_6qxGureWedwRUS9OOSGmO-BH-oOLqe-QHALbuxpS7UzL8TVUB1m31IDguhRCan4hTORJnOm1JVmy66Cf7Sell5suMLL00O/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8dGlHIIV1ckViJNGklGFNC7FP18e5iBd_b597SYQueTVeI_6qxGureWedwRUS9OOSGmO-BH-oOLqe-QHALbuxpS7UzL8TVUB1m31IDguhRCan4hTORJnOm1JVmy66Cf7Sell5suMLL00O/s640/008.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>

And one more after:<br />

I'm back. And today is the first day of my off-season. Thank you baby Jesus, I'm done for the winter. <br />
<br />
My on-season was great. I love my job but hate being away from home so it's a double-edged sword. I also hate being away from here. I thought I could do projects and blog about them at the same time but it just couldn't happen. A home decor blog without projects is lame but I did do bunch of things this summer so I'll catch you all up in the next few weeks.....here's a preview......<br />
<br />

This is just a couple of the projects I worked on in the past three months. I have a few more in the works and a bunch in the planning stage. Things are about to get real. Hear that sound? My husband is ducking and running for cover.....<br />

The painting techniques are the same as if you were painting a chair or a wall. This post is more about how to get the COURAGE to paint a lampshade because it's so weird to just slap a coat of paint onto a lampshade.<br />
<br />
I bought a ten dollar shade at Wal-Mart for a lamp I found at the Goodwill. The shade needed to be on the smaller side and it needed to be able to attach to the lamp without using a lamp harp. I found a shade that met both of those needs but unfortunately it was a beige-ish grey. I really wanted white but apparently it didn't come in that color so I bought it anyway and hoped it worked. It didn't. The color was just wrong for the space (our new office). Here's a shot:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmxOIUFID-XIHkR50S0ge4k-G5RYqejxAr6Q0klyEhlpDAqgxv1ufxPqVCdQ10V0ur8Mha3uIWwaqrDo4h-ODtLLb71Bg5_DTKB43P5M-P-LUNYTwqHQXQoIuGn0kuaADDQJI5zKaxZrXw/s1600/020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmxOIUFID-XIHkR50S0ge4k-G5RYqejxAr6Q0klyEhlpDAqgxv1ufxPqVCdQ10V0ur8Mha3uIWwaqrDo4h-ODtLLb71Bg5_DTKB43P5M-P-LUNYTwqHQXQoIuGn0kuaADDQJI5zKaxZrXw/s400/020.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I thought about returning it but I was suddenly struck with the idea that maybe, just maybe, I could paint it. <br />
<br />
The texture of the shade was really rough so I wasn't so sure how it would turn out. I covered it in two light coats of primer. I really wanted the texture to come through so I didn't glom on the paint. Here it is mid-way the first coat:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBPPI_zZ6pDLqN2CgImhO-3aM47sqdocfF5Axerz823AjLTybJ8ZxQK7MELxHtvIQvuQWuBqpo1uhCdfmaFozUjkSjaBBgEpTb_IYdkAVx5hsxre2pYOy7Jq466khnYcdc4N8aLddaVxuV/s1600/050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBPPI_zZ6pDLqN2CgImhO-3aM47sqdocfF5Axerz823AjLTybJ8ZxQK7MELxHtvIQvuQWuBqpo1uhCdfmaFozUjkSjaBBgEpTb_IYdkAVx5hsxre2pYOy7Jq466khnYcdc4N8aLddaVxuV/s320/050.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
After I let the shade dry for awhile (it was actually 6 days because I went back to work), I coated it with Behr Ultra Pure White (just the semi-gloss kind that comes straight of the shelf).<br />
<br />
And here it is:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmENQMeDktoRE8ZCzRB27p8FiNAbdc8bpFhON_uD6ZGfm2Ei1F2UjJLdWzczhYhyjIRsHMPIskhz7tyZHoYRJLe5O99sfNSSH_Jm6D5V84GEq5oNM_IqK0YfJegrrc1Xb7n-w3QujyZtrd/s1600/070.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmENQMeDktoRE8ZCzRB27p8FiNAbdc8bpFhON_uD6ZGfm2Ei1F2UjJLdWzczhYhyjIRsHMPIskhz7tyZHoYRJLe5O99sfNSSH_Jm6D5V84GEq5oNM_IqK0YfJegrrc1Xb7n-w3QujyZtrd/s400/070.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
Because I used light coats, you can still see the texture. I think it looks great!<br />
<br />
My advice when painting a lampshade? Use a good primer, paint lightly, and don't be scared! It'll turn out great!<br />

Best Tuna Burger Ever!I haven't really posted any recipes but this is one of my favorites. My husband goes on a tuna fishing charter every year and comes home with approximately one billion pounds of fresh tuna. Well, not really, but that's what it feels like. Truth be told, I don't really like fresh tuna (GASP!). Eventually I had to find a way to deal with the huge amount of tuna taking over my freezer and I finally found a recipe I love!<br />

So settle in.... We're on number two....<br />
<br />
I briefly mentioned this improvement technique yesterday. I used nearly the same cleaning formula as yesterday, with one change. My homemade (fantastic) deck cleaner formula is: 3 quarts warm water, 1 quart bleach, 1/3 cup POWDERED laundry detergent. The powdered stuff doesn't foam as much as regular cleaner so it's easier to deal with.<br />
<br />
I'll leave you with pictures....<br />

I'm not going to lie and say this was the easiest project. Because it wasn't! I spent 3 hours scrubbing all the moss and goo from this deck. But what I will say is the homemade deck cleaner was cheap, simple and worked like a hot damn!<br />
<br />
Next up? Applying finish. That will be tomorrow....<br />

It's the front of the house. Well, actually it's the back of the house, but it's where the front door is located. Confused? Our driveway comes up from the street and then wraps around the house to the garage and front door. From now on I will call it the north side of the house.<br />
<br />
We don't really spend much time on the north side. It has a much bigger deck but the view isn't quite the same as the south side:<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">South side.</td></tr>

The north side of the house has been woefully neglected, so I took it upon my self to change that. The first job I tackled also turned out to be the easiest. Our garage door was looking a little grungy so I scrubbed it down with a homemade concoction of bleach, dishwashing detergent and hot water. I added the bleach because moss grows EVERYWHERE in our neck of the woods so I wanted something that would kill the spores.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikNWwVKMnikgtQag0l2pVjAN4kXWlPHQgG7lSWZNvMMeVHF0iI3GUHvZKE2YEHnFmIEiA2QqNRY5Q4bqvvCQzC8GuU7Pn-LcwhJRHRWDffevK2nShpczkpl7px3VjXQ_eAnNvOthPCNCGK/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikNWwVKMnikgtQag0l2pVjAN4kXWlPHQgG7lSWZNvMMeVHF0iI3GUHvZKE2YEHnFmIEiA2QqNRY5Q4bqvvCQzC8GuU7Pn-LcwhJRHRWDffevK2nShpczkpl7px3VjXQ_eAnNvOthPCNCGK/s400/007.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I took this picture when I was halfway finished. You can really see the dirt and moss at the bottom, right side of the door, but the whole thing was kind of a mess.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So much better! It only took me about ten minutes but it makes a HUGE difference.<br />
<br />
Unfortunately I wasn't as lucky with the next projects. In fact, I'm still working on it :(<br />
<br />
Update soon!<br />

<br />
My cats were attacking the curtains furiously and I couldn't figure out why. They were both literally swatting, clawing and biting at the curtains. I tried to shoo them away to no avail. It didn't take me long to figure out what the problem was.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlFmEbSm5I7KCsaoM9cC-bq7PFAGGFuMIh19PeBUpCu58M4skdc1wG_GOAyzCbv3mtasdiUnLnfcYptog7PEaE8_VyuQ_tbzDlZkvgPiv0SUME8DROzIEJFEoh2xmwl7LJX7eUxE16Br6K/s1600/004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlFmEbSm5I7KCsaoM9cC-bq7PFAGGFuMIh19PeBUpCu58M4skdc1wG_GOAyzCbv3mtasdiUnLnfcYptog7PEaE8_VyuQ_tbzDlZkvgPiv0SUME8DROzIEJFEoh2xmwl7LJX7eUxE16Br6K/s400/004.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
Don't see it? How about a little closer...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU8HIsVYQtEG4zjGgcehyphenhyphenUo8mj7WxA9Trebzn8lankLe_uJ810XPz8xpV8P3thGWbqFvDlsPTXGJW15D3BpMbqPrjQltjvBGOY9bk3CmK58dXKC-63uASRs6aCV66RaELrGnBAEudkip5V/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU8HIsVYQtEG4zjGgcehyphenhyphenUo8mj7WxA9Trebzn8lankLe_uJ810XPz8xpV8P3thGWbqFvDlsPTXGJW15D3BpMbqPrjQltjvBGOY9bk3CmK58dXKC-63uASRs6aCV66RaELrGnBAEudkip5V/s400/002.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And a little closer.....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEzkIbnqdjeX53jG30C_BPuV21By9OMbLbQCAMl-cJqTNQmxWnbSaE9FVBL9Ozysx8vsljclF7oEtMGoGAlUysUnOcuQyBguwGVQwJCkIVqdyM9vfT0d2YhKx69QtKJMKT5hzqj3stuRvD/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEzkIbnqdjeX53jG30C_BPuV21By9OMbLbQCAMl-cJqTNQmxWnbSaE9FVBL9Ozysx8vsljclF7oEtMGoGAlUysUnOcuQyBguwGVQwJCkIVqdyM9vfT0d2YhKx69QtKJMKT5hzqj3stuRvD/s400/001.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Sorry for the terrible pictures but did I mention I had just woken up?<br />
<br />
Mice don't really bother me that much but since I am used to seeing them underfoot not overhead this one threw me for a loop. I guess the resourceful little guy climbed the curtains to avoid certain death at the <strike>hands </strike>paws of my cats.<br />
<br />
You'll be happy to know I scooped him off of the curtain rod and returned him to the wild.<br />

They come in all different shapes and sizes and are so, so easy to grow. They are pretty much the lowest maintenance plant in the world.<br />
<br />
I had seen vertical succulent gardens all over the web and at a garden show I went to last year so I decided that this was something I could totally tackle.<br />
<br />
I gathered up some supplies: chicken wire, potting soil, various succulents and an old wooden window frame I found at a salvage store for ten bucks.<br />
<br />
After Googling around the internet I settled on the easiest approach. We fit chicken wire against the back of the window frame and then my husband built up the window frame by about three inches so that we could put in the soil. You can see the original frame and then the portion my husband built here:<br />

He then added hanging mechanism to the back. In order to support the weight of the frame and soil he used a cleat type hanging method, kind of like this except it's not a headboard, lol. The concept is exactly the same though......<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsjuU2ubbux9ncMa3xPI-ndvEHmip47Z0Z8CgTRtRtlMPqe_-Pqp3AnacaxYLq4oWkJnbfy_KYhENF-SJ1Pzwyltojsqj1EGVPVtn4wex2aXF8XbiTXa4uzQOwHZ5deyf8HicYPaKnc7KT/s1600/hanging+a+succulent.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="307" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsjuU2ubbux9ncMa3xPI-ndvEHmip47Z0Z8CgTRtRtlMPqe_-Pqp3AnacaxYLq4oWkJnbfy_KYhENF-SJ1Pzwyltojsqj1EGVPVtn4wex2aXF8XbiTXa4uzQOwHZ5deyf8HicYPaKnc7KT/s400/hanging+a+succulent.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Basically he screwed pieces of wood to the wall and the back of the window frame. When the succulent garden is ready to hang, you fit the two pieces of wood together and it's perfectly supported. This is the piece that is attached to the wall:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiW93T1XK5-XgzdtkBCT7nxhv2O3fweT_yBiVfWmxyCNNGPw-4_IU-Uja_7bHXFa2WZrbqPgkdyIS7yB4Jd6J_YDG6HZyS71nmwTZRZa8VmE-T18fdraDnYxlx7I19j9bhSTk80NSNFxSDx/s1600/014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiW93T1XK5-XgzdtkBCT7nxhv2O3fweT_yBiVfWmxyCNNGPw-4_IU-Uja_7bHXFa2WZrbqPgkdyIS7yB4Jd6J_YDG6HZyS71nmwTZRZa8VmE-T18fdraDnYxlx7I19j9bhSTk80NSNFxSDx/s320/014.JPG" width="212" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And now it was time to make it pretty. I poured soil into the window frame and packed it in really, really tight. The tighter the better because once you turn it vertical, gravity wants to pull every thing down and out. Boo.<br />
<br />
In order to plant the succulents I used snips to cut open the chicken wire in places, pried it back and then jammed the plants into the soil. Here's the beautiful results:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDi24cz8CirMZJIrNF5O0p3smKKBsZ9eLQtEZ_qlM1WxWKlbAZQlUXCan67nxBPBCbNmkurj_WpKeF6ZQNCgyAk5LV4t-IjaPETeEY2Y-YqLfWM_CeAPThxCvsOnnfO4bV47mBnLIOGF6N/s1600/082.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDi24cz8CirMZJIrNF5O0p3smKKBsZ9eLQtEZ_qlM1WxWKlbAZQlUXCan67nxBPBCbNmkurj_WpKeF6ZQNCgyAk5LV4t-IjaPETeEY2Y-YqLfWM_CeAPThxCvsOnnfO4bV47mBnLIOGF6N/s400/082.JPG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhboXxyT7V2t3w36jljiPUpkSduiaHCEUtNoyI1v0ivlF1puBX9bL4pWP_X2e4vnRlQbcWz38iy-Ok3C-QBcPuCOPQ9qkI8G67BWAD6cscvAZWx8S-grHCAn6D70YLLX66zESNFuJqSXoaz/s1600/083.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhboXxyT7V2t3w36jljiPUpkSduiaHCEUtNoyI1v0ivlF1puBX9bL4pWP_X2e4vnRlQbcWz38iy-Ok3C-QBcPuCOPQ9qkI8G67BWAD6cscvAZWx8S-grHCAn6D70YLLX66zESNFuJqSXoaz/s400/083.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Now comes the full disclosure: <br />
<br />
One: It sat horizontal for about two months. I really wanted to make sure that the succulents rooted and the soil was completely packed before I hung it. <br />
<br />
And two: Some of these succulents didn't really work out. The one with the pretty flowers in the foreground and the large pinkish flower looking one died about four months after I planted them. I think the problem was they naturally grow pretty high so when I hung them vertically they failed to thrive. Oh well, the rest of them are doing really well and filled in the holes left by the dead ones.<br />
<br />
Eventually I did mount it to the wall. Over about two weeks, I slowly moved the frame from horizontal to vertical by propping it against the house and adjusting the degree it was leaning. But my patience paid off and here it is!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This was taken in the dead of winter. Here's a more recent pic:<br />

Well, it doesn't literally kill me, but it does make me feel like a slacker. But if you've read my "About Me" section (or if you're related to me) you know that I work for five months a year. What you don't know (unless, again, you're related to me) is that I work away from home. Away from my lovely home, my husband, my cats, DIY, and all things crafty.<br />
<br />
Okay, it's not as dire as I made it sound. First off, I am a shift worker, so I work 5 days on, 3 days off. That means I do get to go home for three (sometimes four) days at a time. Not too bad. At least that's what I repeat to myself when I'm leaving for work. Lol. (also *sob*)<br />
<br />
And secondly, this is my office:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivN9ZJsLp5V0P4rl-YFpH78mUAwfNkaJXmR4wq6isBE5-dLJYVGVcJfvsj9Go0xZnEMhFsbBRsnkVQHRqWhojfuk-yjFoGkNr6s-_8mlZvDHgQGEJ-vnt7TH4DS_uAUiUZVRhJ7CLz470/s1600/Victoria+BC+Harbor.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivN9ZJsLp5V0P4rl-YFpH78mUAwfNkaJXmR4wq6isBE5-dLJYVGVcJfvsj9Go0xZnEMhFsbBRsnkVQHRqWhojfuk-yjFoGkNr6s-_8mlZvDHgQGEJ-vnt7TH4DS_uAUiUZVRhJ7CLz470/s400/Victoria+BC+Harbor.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
Well, it's the view from my office.<br />
<br />
Some days it looks like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.helmsinn.com/postcards/images/boats.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="263" src="http://www.helmsinn.com/postcards/images/boats.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
A lot of days it looks like this...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lcq2vlCxUR1qcg82lo1_500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lcq2vlCxUR1qcg82lo1_500.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Rain, rain, rain. Rainy, rain, rain.<br />
<br />
<br />
But some days, it could also look like this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://mw2.google.com/mw-panoramio/photos/medium/14088949.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://mw2.google.com/mw-panoramio/photos/medium/14088949.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I have an amazing job, in an amazing location, with amazing people. But unfortunately that job makes it tricky for me to keep up with this blog. There will be posts. But they won't be consistent. I have things that I plan on doing but most days, when I'm home, all I want to do is relax and hang out with my hubby and my cats. And weed the garden. Well I never WANT to weed the garden but it's one on of the few outdoor activities I feel qualified to do...lol.<br />
<br />
I'm not leaving here, I'm just making sure you know where my head is at.....<br />

Once upon a time I paid waaay too much for an ugly warped cork board. It was all twisted and ugly but I bought it anyway and I think I paid twenty-five dollars for it! Yikes. <br />
<br />
Here she is in all her glory.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHkTLMo92H0qYUAHzdZFro6apSBVNvt8lIVuhDrYEEwVTKZ7ZK43DpVAR5jaQ4LpH00Zv1kLUiyvcEROnXydf6Ix__oMD_Kvnt9-wA11ZVhItg7K5_5TmKQNSjVbZbocAYJccF88lESw_v/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHkTLMo92H0qYUAHzdZFro6apSBVNvt8lIVuhDrYEEwVTKZ7ZK43DpVAR5jaQ4LpH00Zv1kLUiyvcEROnXydf6Ix__oMD_Kvnt9-wA11ZVhItg7K5_5TmKQNSjVbZbocAYJccF88lESw_v/s320/002.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
When I was re-doing my office I wanted to have a cork board above the desk but I really didn't want to buy a new one. So how could I work with the old one? I decided I wanted to paint it so I googled around for the best way to accomplish that. Here's the answer:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOdK5Z4nQTsiGYUBDiJJ6NvNoAce-nim0VXb4WjHkHHopDhzJYE3i0dyaGFufaqcUGSSRQ8gx_Nfq8WoVa48tgn-osCZtg8w6NhlHEF4g_eSe0vKBocl_vJmWurrfsfxuqgurtlxL2ZH9t/s1600/001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOdK5Z4nQTsiGYUBDiJJ6NvNoAce-nim0VXb4WjHkHHopDhzJYE3i0dyaGFufaqcUGSSRQ8gx_Nfq8WoVa48tgn-osCZtg8w6NhlHEF4g_eSe0vKBocl_vJmWurrfsfxuqgurtlxL2ZH9t/s400/001.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I covered the cork board with three coats of water based polyurethane. This prevented the paint from soaking through the cork and ensured I would get nice even coverage.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_3IOS3hoxxMnZrhdPNkXKibifraSy2QAcFFRJ_ocqaIB6HAvw6xWH_yz8EZ6_6MnejuBPwnGTjp1LTQGEAqsJvw_Pc4ETuWRcMwZ_ikDv24764L-0-do7cbpdxrN8H0f23xxk4sQGIM72/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_3IOS3hoxxMnZrhdPNkXKibifraSy2QAcFFRJ_ocqaIB6HAvw6xWH_yz8EZ6_6MnejuBPwnGTjp1LTQGEAqsJvw_Pc4ETuWRcMwZ_ikDv24764L-0-do7cbpdxrN8H0f23xxk4sQGIM72/s400/003.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
You can see how shiny it is after I was done. I let each coat dry for about an hour between applications. Once I was sure everything was water tight I applied the color. I used the same color that I painted the back of the bookshelves (Rich Navy by BHG) for a bit of balance in the room.<br />
<br />
Mid Painting:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNSOpRA2dI9ibkpDyI0rkmVXkxmOtQeoIkkNEESDaQoSPdmXCy5_stNh-K2UFivblNEO4qoIK23rAc4C1Li_o4m5qpBlNkFYsjOuX2bFkl8HOEK7nxVuE-E_Wll2yQ8wT-OOLpdou0eAS9/s1600/006.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNSOpRA2dI9ibkpDyI0rkmVXkxmOtQeoIkkNEESDaQoSPdmXCy5_stNh-K2UFivblNEO4qoIK23rAc4C1Li_o4m5qpBlNkFYsjOuX2bFkl8HOEK7nxVuE-E_Wll2yQ8wT-OOLpdou0eAS9/s400/006.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I did three coats of the paint just to ensure maximum coverage. And I'm really happy with the results.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9XqLcEG-8hGGMKVbXX4mW7qiVfB0AC5eDylhco4XAJCoAirinjZGoUykAE42kTAQzV2aZmAY_0Ar5MJKT_YS0JFgnJecME9OZnmKmwKZlnBoP6XmMuOMwEf4ESNXqVEqK2iziL38XMYar/s1600/288.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9XqLcEG-8hGGMKVbXX4mW7qiVfB0AC5eDylhco4XAJCoAirinjZGoUykAE42kTAQzV2aZmAY_0Ar5MJKT_YS0JFgnJecME9OZnmKmwKZlnBoP6XmMuOMwEf4ESNXqVEqK2iziL38XMYar/s640/288.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
There she is, serving her purpose with style. That's a "How to Identify Pacific Salmon" brochure pinned on the left. Just in case I need to be able to distinguish between a Chinook and a Coho at a moments notice. Lol.<br />
<br />
So far we've pinned a bunch of things to it and it hides the old holes pretty well. You really have to look close to see where I've previously used it.<br />
<br />
I might Rub 'n Buff the silver edge, but for now I'm quite pleased with it.<br />

Generally it doesn't happen this way. I have gone into the Goodwill many, many times, only to leave with nothing. On this trip I hit pay dirt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTYCr85JNGkQLeknuYWw_gH3ozXHD4Cc-Nz-O3EFibuE1XcfW1tEgaYakdFk-XDPMam-sxYyhJd1uNFqC1L-QPb54T1xjBNcZ053xrzR-04TJwbeNubVZW_OEHO01v7NPopGDRvVy6Sbmk/s1600/022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTYCr85JNGkQLeknuYWw_gH3ozXHD4Cc-Nz-O3EFibuE1XcfW1tEgaYakdFk-XDPMam-sxYyhJd1uNFqC1L-QPb54T1xjBNcZ053xrzR-04TJwbeNubVZW_OEHO01v7NPopGDRvVy6Sbmk/s640/022.JPG" width="426" /></a></div><br />

I bought the pretty cut-out candle holder for a dollar, the glass tea light holder for fifty cents and my favorite of the bunch, that large brass mirror for two dollars. It may not say brass forever because the finish is a little sketchy but I'm loving it for now.<br />
<br />
All in all a very successful trip!<br />

This post is about fabric. That I found at a thrift store.<br />

Every once in awhile I get lucky at my local Goodwill because someone somewhere donated a bunch of coordinating fabric that I actually like. It doesn't happen often, but when it does I am all over it.<br />

The floral fabric is about two yards and the striped fabric is about a yard. I paid 1.99 for the floral and .99 for the stripe. I think it's meant to be used outdoors which I like because then it's fade resistant and easy to clean. Eventually I will make pillows for the office.<br />
<br />
Ever lucked out with fabric at a thrift store? This is only the second time that I've found great coordinating fabric. But hopefully it won't be the last!<br />

This has to be one of my favorites. <br />
<br />
I showed up really late to a sale and the place was nearly cleared out. They had sold a household of furniture and most of their odds and ends in a matter of hours. Just as I was kicking myself for getting the extra <strike>two </strike>four hours of sleep I spotted a pile of books in the corner. There was a billion of them and you could tell they were once a bright blue but had been faded from years of sitting in the sun. The price said ten dollars. The lady that was running the yard sale noticed that I was checking them out and said told me that they were the complete works of Shakespeare. And said I could have them for five dollars. SOLD!<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3mqhFqsNKb3XlOfmjrgmTyDfXgWEVbTtyg6TrDCq8iW9-VAhR7ieX-z-FAH6qOwuTSIPbUELb_mKqAnGSSVIZo1TK5lxiGI3gB1l5-csTlC5dAc3bEkRwZ0rWXba2Nvw_DxojU3-Tz3A3/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3mqhFqsNKb3XlOfmjrgmTyDfXgWEVbTtyg6TrDCq8iW9-VAhR7ieX-z-FAH6qOwuTSIPbUELb_mKqAnGSSVIZo1TK5lxiGI3gB1l5-csTlC5dAc3bEkRwZ0rWXba2Nvw_DxojU3-Tz3A3/s400/008.JPG" width="266" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I needed a reference point for how big the stack of books was. Yes I realize it looks like I bought orange juice on this garage sale expedition. And yes I like my orange juice with medium pulp.</td></tr>
</tbody></table><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD3ELwq4BfjzqdGT1eWxvvUlrx4hN6wlnMrePUhCQZMJWXzomU3JlphnBtmnVLO8L8sY40BKAyPCv2oLd416NRaPWKQLhhNWfS_cgL9ESr7TIfGR9xJVsSrLMCmnHwba0GOFRbgofTWFvA/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiD3ELwq4BfjzqdGT1eWxvvUlrx4hN6wlnMrePUhCQZMJWXzomU3JlphnBtmnVLO8L8sY40BKAyPCv2oLd416NRaPWKQLhhNWfS_cgL9ESr7TIfGR9xJVsSrLMCmnHwba0GOFRbgofTWFvA/s400/009.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I love how faded the books are and that they fit into the office color scheme beautifully. All in all there were 39 books (37 of Shakespeare's plays, a book of his sonnets and somehow a copy of Cyrano De Bergerac). I paid just about thirteen cents a copy. What a great deal.<br />
<br />
When I told the lady I would take them she kind of squealed with joy and told me that she was happy that someone who enjoyed literature would be taking them home. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I wanted them for their aesthetic qualities and not because I wanted to add some culture in my life (I get enough of that from Real Housewives, thank you very much). But maybe I'll start flipping through them? <br />
<br />
Here they are scattered all over the place. There really are a lot of them!<br />
<br />

<br />
I found this next beauty at an estate sale. I love estate sales because it seems to me that the stuff being sold is a little higher quality than your regular yard sale.<br />
<br />
This basket was hidden outside with a bunch of other woven baskets. I think the previous owner used it as a planter because it was covered with dirt and cobwebs. I was undeterred.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAYQK62E8eVB9gqUQIOtpkAx3y2w2iuEaU9QSxRev0F_1C9a2yHX36qvLvt8seIS2GGqoZy-RGcywd1FrNcd_VwPctIjphmeQheFn4vKXAb2wAaFnEde_XOUtjUxzxrhuBG2GHeJL10_KB/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAYQK62E8eVB9gqUQIOtpkAx3y2w2iuEaU9QSxRev0F_1C9a2yHX36qvLvt8seIS2GGqoZy-RGcywd1FrNcd_VwPctIjphmeQheFn4vKXAb2wAaFnEde_XOUtjUxzxrhuBG2GHeJL10_KB/s400/011.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
I love the woven pattern and the turquoise color. The handles are metal and a little roughed up but that just adds to its charm. And it's big! About twelve inches high and 16 inches wide. Eventually I'm going to use it to hold blankets but for right now it's a space filler on my wall o' shelves.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbQrGOguDzKburOcnHPyG2bR4j6JCk5XLLrZhIlxNMXFZ39uIXPT8l5OupsIyd6V_LLgaYpM4inwxud6EHiyHFPUt6W8W8jdRMPblP3129CSfeqKMAEtcyImm8iw0K01uha8NJsDB3-O71/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbQrGOguDzKburOcnHPyG2bR4j6JCk5XLLrZhIlxNMXFZ39uIXPT8l5OupsIyd6V_LLgaYpM4inwxud6EHiyHFPUt6W8W8jdRMPblP3129CSfeqKMAEtcyImm8iw0K01uha8NJsDB3-O71/s640/012.JPG" width="425" /></a></div><br />
Man, I still have a lot of work to do with these shelves. <br />
<br />
Happy Monday!<br />

I haven't been sharing the amazing finds that have been coming home with me. And that's about to change. In fact all next week I'll be showing you the great (inexpensive!) things that caught my eye and prompted me to pry open my wallet.<br />
<br />
Today's find is a bit of a departure from the home decor world. I've been dreaming about warmer weather, shorts, and drinks on the patio. And what better way to inject a little spring into my world than shoes. Cute little canvas flats that I found at Ross. For only 11.99.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzH3mMGLHEUHd22IMvur6jV0bakhrlXlnUYV89nBPeQNdhBI3CS0DzYTPO7nt0zYOYUQIfFzdEc92DU7TgP2fZz108_kJ34sQQataJ1zLqb2rM2MWuBmyjaLHhCi0QFA3TY6k40jhyphenhyphentC78/s1600/002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzH3mMGLHEUHd22IMvur6jV0bakhrlXlnUYV89nBPeQNdhBI3CS0DzYTPO7nt0zYOYUQIfFzdEc92DU7TgP2fZz108_kJ34sQQataJ1zLqb2rM2MWuBmyjaLHhCi0QFA3TY6k40jhyphenhyphentC78/s400/002.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiRrKLEYa73aRZPVcjTpOhPoOwyPHpIfuR4CSoVplvczM25TpMxQpdejViqSFbMAZwb7hyKPSK3Om3Q7MLLbONcWLopf3u5BDurRMeCzWocaiqP44mO10zzQ7RCfF0X2KqY8Sk-u2P1ASH/s1600/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiRrKLEYa73aRZPVcjTpOhPoOwyPHpIfuR4CSoVplvczM25TpMxQpdejViqSFbMAZwb7hyKPSK3Om3Q7MLLbONcWLopf3u5BDurRMeCzWocaiqP44mO10zzQ7RCfF0X2KqY8Sk-u2P1ASH/s400/003.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
They have an all-over polka dot chevron print and a sisal rope-like band that runs all the way around the bottom. Plus it's kind of hard to see but they have clear sequins that kind of sparkle when I walk. I am in love with them! And they're super comfortable.<br />
<br />
Well that's all for today. I promise I'll be back next week with a bunch of yard sale/Goodwill finds that are more related to my home.<br />
<br />
Have a great weekend!<br />

<br />
Name that movie......<br />
<br />
Okay. <em>I'll</em> name that movie since I hate when I see "name that movie" and I can't name the movie because I have no recollection for movie quotes and then I have no idea what anyone is talking about....<br />
<br />
It was Notting Hill with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. Funny.<br />
<br />
This post has gone so sideways, even I'm confused.<br />
<br />
Moving on.<br />
<br />
I have been showing you bits and pieces of how I achieved my office space. And I will continue to show you bits and pieces unless my ADD takes over and I show you something else (<em>oooooh, look...something shiny!)</em><br />
<br />
Enough with the jibber-jabber. Here's a picture:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0992vqLuQUjlp96MwFYq2wfSjxv8HhTV9jggh4uV1ftnBC-WHrhg4RPtixLDk-4JqzM9OR7aUjstkVd5JR_1_nw8qn1wJW8yDGuXuJY8LFQUCFRZfdx9Qv6cXwIj-xd1-qWS2FvEbB95s/s1600/292.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0992vqLuQUjlp96MwFYq2wfSjxv8HhTV9jggh4uV1ftnBC-WHrhg4RPtixLDk-4JqzM9OR7aUjstkVd5JR_1_nw8qn1wJW8yDGuXuJY8LFQUCFRZfdx9Qv6cXwIj-xd1-qWS2FvEbB95s/s400/292.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Hey look, you can see my reflection in the glass. That's about the best picture you are ever going to see of me on this blog.<br />
<br />
I had an old Ribba frame hanging around and decided to put it to good use.<br />
<br />
Sidenote: Does anyone else start to desperately grab at things on their way out of Ikea? It's really smart of them to have the picture frame section towards the end of the maze. I start to panic that I haven't made my trip worth while by that point and I just indiscriminately grab at items. Hence the extra picture frame.....<br />
<br />
This tutorial had been featured in a million different places for good reason: It's cheap and it's lovely.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTpjOrgiWjnXQsNrFEXbBwCf7nYru0RySv9Bnvx1bDQA1RizyJ22eAXSPogALk-J_sWjO6YR7MCqfqIX_ul25PKkCmfOabmvzjt4Ajhzse1pjDEL-AtdSiyOmsYdaEGlZGk1JE-jClNjFO/s1600/paint_chip_art1_2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTpjOrgiWjnXQsNrFEXbBwCf7nYru0RySv9Bnvx1bDQA1RizyJ22eAXSPogALk-J_sWjO6YR7MCqfqIX_ul25PKkCmfOabmvzjt4Ajhzse1pjDEL-AtdSiyOmsYdaEGlZGk1JE-jClNjFO/s400/paint_chip_art1_2.jpg" width="266" /></a></div><br />
As you can see, I didn't feel it was prudent to deviate much from the original.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://ellementaryhome.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Ellementary Home</a>'s tutorial is right <a href="http://ellementaryhome.blogspot.com/2012/01/in-which-i-hop-on-three-bandwagons.html" target="_blank">here</a>. I encourage you to learn from that site as opposed to mine. I take too few pictures. Boooo: Off For the Season. Yay: Ellementary Home!<br />
<br />
I can give you the basics:<br />
<br />
1. Put on the darkest clothing you own;<br />
<br />
2. Find that baseball hat that has been sitting at the very back of your closet; Put it on. And make sure face can be completely covered by it:<br />
<br />
3. Drive to Wal-Mart/Home Depot/Your local paint store. Bonus points for covering your license plate with mud before you leave the house;<br />
<br />
4. Non-chalantly stroll ( <u>YOU MUST STROLL</u>!) to the paint section;<br />
<br />
5. Find the paint samples that turn your crank.....AND......<br />
<br />
6. Take as many as you feel comfortable taking. Or as I do: take all of them.<br />
<br />
Once you get your bounty home, cut each piece into the appropriate size, glue them to an appropriate canvas and the pat yourself on the back. (I told you to check out the links......those people are so much smarter than me!)<br />
<br />
For those of you that are quaking in their boots about taking that many paint chips: Here's the thing....they are free. It's like free samples at Costco...there's nothing stopping you from taking each and every chimichanga morsel. Actually, there is a person with gloves and a hairnet, but as I often say: "<em>Damn the man!!!!"</em> <br />
<br />
Actually I never say that. Funny enough a lot of people consider me "the man" which is another story for another time. I do justify my excessive paint-chip-taking by spending a ridiculous amount of money there every month. And I rarely take samples at Costco. Consider my freebie karma even.<br />
<br />
Wowsa...so much chatter, so few pictures....here's more:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEispL1pFUrjKq1SNq2SlUpu4XOM2h3NwCYJsPcvJjwb7ck3Kyu7nWiu2GGyx2ikABNO1yYOdwwkH0c761Y290c4psZtY7NnczrrGFcRlcWL3m2zffFhwOMkgzSHYVkuvcenavvpkwsLtoRO/s1600/258.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEispL1pFUrjKq1SNq2SlUpu4XOM2h3NwCYJsPcvJjwb7ck3Kyu7nWiu2GGyx2ikABNO1yYOdwwkH0c761Y290c4psZtY7NnczrrGFcRlcWL3m2zffFhwOMkgzSHYVkuvcenavvpkwsLtoRO/s640/258.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
There she is on the wall. Man, I love that. Basically the whole thing cost me the amount I put out for the frame. So about 20 bucks.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3r2_SUcllPrN2EFRkcyLMNXv_m2l-gZRaYXYBvse24DbB_-7k78mfXZLjSntr1MfwaxS1jSXS4u-pWPY1hPkfOX4Gsz6_VVoRCkn2ZQ4BaZERR0elpqY9HOIXA4kXlSG9GuhN_Q5i_V1O/s1600/296.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3r2_SUcllPrN2EFRkcyLMNXv_m2l-gZRaYXYBvse24DbB_-7k78mfXZLjSntr1MfwaxS1jSXS4u-pWPY1hPkfOX4Gsz6_VVoRCkn2ZQ4BaZERR0elpqY9HOIXA4kXlSG9GuhN_Q5i_V1O/s640/296.JPG" width="426" /></a></div><br />
There's a obligatory shot of my work plus my cat. As a person that is sans-child, I reserve the right to include many, many pictures of my cats. Lol. Enjoy.<br />
<br />
This post has now come full circle. Now is the time that I explain the post title. As you may know, Ikea generally includes wire hangers with their larger picture frames. In fact that is the only option they offer so I decided to out-fox Ikea. Big Mistake.<br />
<br />
I super-glued some scrap wood to the cardboard on the back of the frame. It sat flush with the frame when I as done. I then used a few Command Strips to attach it to the wall. Let me just say that I have never, ever had problems with the Command Strips. I love them.........but for some reason things went terribly, terribly wrong. Sigh. <br />
<br />
Also:<br />
<br />
<em>Whoops a Daisies.</em><br />
<br />
Here we go......I was innocently watching Southland (best show on television!) when I heard a crash. Of course I ignored it until I went to bed and saw this tragic accident. Booo.<br />
<br />

My beautiful work of art (stick with me, okay) had fallen and disintegrated into a million pieces. I still haven't fixed it but I long for the day that it will be hung in its rightful place. *frowny face*<br />

Coincidentally it's also one of the cheapest and easiest!<br />
<br />
I've noticed that this improvement has been lurking in a bunch of photos I've posted on here already. Do you think you can spot what I'm talking about?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRZ8gf13WHqvHqWcGLFG2QgiLVBHaEVHwuZ7xKuQFw_4nCXMWoCcZBY3yEPPJEgAA2mssLbW6m5Hxuv6e-is5XM0b6RF9-Tt8nfS7l_Js1e1cwrskZLjdjRY_xh7-l-j-o2OBIU3Z1_SBR/s1600/158.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRZ8gf13WHqvHqWcGLFG2QgiLVBHaEVHwuZ7xKuQFw_4nCXMWoCcZBY3yEPPJEgAA2mssLbW6m5Hxuv6e-is5XM0b6RF9-Tt8nfS7l_Js1e1cwrskZLjdjRY_xh7-l-j-o2OBIU3Z1_SBR/s640/158.JPG" width="426" /></a></div><br />
I don't think it's super obvious, but it's the register cover!<br />
<br />
Here's what I was working with:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLkx-sQMfwxxI1S7knxi7hN2xvTBqO7tTNLi7TGARrZTgKIjG-Z4PnT9KB-9q2WT7LzgQ0hJG2Jsp2fONCW49tIThUdwyQdUbWY2kR39fkEvZfs_g7uAUQp19r1B9Y098ArGscf8Q-PyN7/s1600/023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLkx-sQMfwxxI1S7knxi7hN2xvTBqO7tTNLi7TGARrZTgKIjG-Z4PnT9KB-9q2WT7LzgQ0hJG2Jsp2fONCW49tIThUdwyQdUbWY2kR39fkEvZfs_g7uAUQp19r1B9Y098ArGscf8Q-PyN7/s400/023.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
Not only am I showing off my old, ugly gold registers, you also get the pleasure of seeing my dirty floors! Lucky. There is a method to my madness....see how the register is curved? It sticks up about 3/4 of an inch and it makes it nearly impossible to run the vacuum cleaner over top and get the gunk against the wall. It was sooo frustrating.<br />
<br />
I had about 8 really, really ugly registers spread around the house. I finally got fed up enough to start looking for replacements. I hit up the usual big box stores and was amazed at what I found. The exact same style in chrome was between 13-14 dollars. Each. That would run me well over one hundred dollars. Brutal.<br />
<br />
I resigned myself to replacing them slowly, one at a time. Until I hit the mother load. I was cruising around Costco looking for something unrelated when I noticed that they were selling register covers (as an aside....is there anything Costco won't try to sell?). They were chrome, in an interesting design and sold in a two-pack..................<br />
<br />
For 9.99!!! <br />
<br />
9.99 for two. <br />
<br />
Two register covers for nine dollars and ninety-nine cents. <br />
<br />
Holy crap! I immediately grabbed four packages and threw them in my cart (along with a pair of yoga pants, some wine, a tub of mayo and some flower bulbs....as I said Costco covers all of my day to day needs) and ran to the front of the store. And here's what they look like close-up:<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ3jkABCfD-BRRWV7l1kshodLklpal67OhrmI1XWDyKandRhBAObcAuBxbQ7QbkfuD56i9UaWFVxjO46p593ZdYydBvcesi_6sRjanYgorZjGZQbhC_BcXj2A_hyNeE7lWDZ2icQckXjTc/s1600/022.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ3jkABCfD-BRRWV7l1kshodLklpal67OhrmI1XWDyKandRhBAObcAuBxbQ7QbkfuD56i9UaWFVxjO46p593ZdYydBvcesi_6sRjanYgorZjGZQbhC_BcXj2A_hyNeE7lWDZ2icQckXjTc/s640/022.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />
I am so happy with them! They're so stylish. And the best part? They barely stick up from the floor so I can vacuum right over them! Beautiful.<br />
<br />
This is going to blow your minds. Ready? I actually bought these a couple of months ago and on my latest trip to Costco I noticed that the exact same registers were......5.99 for a two-pack. Three dollars a register! Unbelievable. I'm a little frustrated that I paid 9.99 for them, but what a great deal for everyone else! <br />
<br />
I'm taking orders...with a 20% finder's fee. Lol. <br />
